98-yr-old Chinese veteran: I was just a single drop in the great tide of anti-aggression resistance

【CMHnews】"To cling to life is but disgrace. Shall we submit to a fallen land? Fight! No fear in my heart. Kill the enemy." This is a poem, written by Wang Yonglao's father upon sending him to join the army. It’s also a vivid portrayal of Wang's life.

Despite his hearing loss and unsteady legs, Wang Yonglao, the 98-year-old veteran, still spoke vividly when recalling the wartime stories decades ago.

In emotional moments, Wang’s eyes welled up with tears, with a mixture of excitement, indignation, and complex feelings. His memories have never faded away.

Wang has never forgotten that during those dark days, when the mountains and rivers lay in ruins, all Chinese people — regardless of their background or origin — stood united in hatred against the enemy.

He also remembered how mothers, though drenched in tears, still sent their children to the battlefield for the sake of the nation.

On the day of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, everyone cheered, "We don't have to fight anymore now! Our country is safe!" said Wang.

For Wang, the pain of separation between life and death has faded with the wind. Since then, he has embraced the sweetness of a happy life.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Looking back on his life, Wang Yonglao summed it up like this, with slightly trembling yet firm and powerful voice:

"People like me are just a single drop of water in the tide of resistance against Japanese aggression. I was just a tiny part in the st ocean, making a small contribution that I should do. Therefore, I have no regrets about my life."
