Consul-General Zhao Liying extended her festive greetings to overseas Chinese communities, international students, staff of Chinese-funded institutions, and friends from all sectors of Canadian society in the consular district.      In her opening remarks, Consul General Zhao Liying reflected on China’s remarkable achievements over the past year. She noted that China’s economic output has surpassed the 140 trillion yuan milestone, with a growth rate of 5%, maintaining its position at the forefront of the world’s major economies.

Zhao emphasized: "China’s contribution to global economic growth remains at approximately 30%. This once again reaffirms China’s role as one of the most vital, stable, and reliable engines of momentum for the global economy."

Regarding science, technology, and green development, she highlighted that China’s innovation index has entered the global top ten for the first time. Significant breakthroughs have been made in "new quality productive forces," such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, humanoid robotics, and biomedical research. Furthermore, China has provided highly efficient solutions for the global energy transition; currently, approximately 80% of the world's solar cells and 70% of its prismatic batteries are produced in China.

A New Chapter in China–Canada Relations: Charting a New Roadmap for Strategic Partnership

Consul General Zhao Liying spoke highly of the improvement and development of China-Canada relations over the past year. Last year marked the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Canada, as well as the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership, characterized by frequent high-level exchanges.

She particularly highlighted the fruitful outcomes of the recent leaders' meeting: "The two sides issued a joint statement, reaching an important consensus on advancing the China-Canada new strategic partnership and outlining a roadmap for the next stage of economic and trade cooperation." This series of achievements provides strategic guidance for cooperation in sectors such as customs, energy, construction, culture, and public security.

Consular Cooperation Delivers Strong Results, with Alberta’s Exports to China Up 32%

Focusing on the consular district, Consul General Zhao Liying noted that pragmatic cooperation between China and Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories has demonstrated a strong momentum of recovery, injecting tangible vitality into the regional economy.

Data shows that, driven by exports of crude oil, natural gas, and agricultural products, Alberta's exports to China increased by 32% year-on-year in the first ten months of last year, with the total value surpassing 7 billion Canadian dollars. Furthermore, high-level visits to China by leaders such as the Premier of Saskatchewan and the Mayor of Edmonton, along with the upcoming showcase of Heilongjiang ice sculpture artistry at Calgary's "Chinook Blast" festival, have further tightened the bonds of cultural and people-to-people exchange.

Looking Ahead to the Year of the Horse:

Strength, Opportunity, and Mutual Success

With the Year of the Horse approaching, Consul General Zhao Liying drew inspiration from the spirit of the horse to encourage all sectors of society: "The horse symbolizes strength and vitality, loyalty and responsibility, as well as success and good fortune. Known for its endurance and determination, the horse embodies the spirit of diligence, resilience, and courage in the face of challenges. As the China-Canada new strategic partnership continues to move forward, cooperation across various fields is expected to accelerate. High-quality Canadian products—such as crude oil, natural gas, and canola oil—are well-positioned to enter China’s vast market of 1.4 billion consumers, supporting Canada’s economic growth, job creation, affordability, and trade diversification. The Consulate General looks forward to working closely with all our friends."

In her closing remarks, Consul General Zhao Liying expressed her profound gratitude to the overseas Chinese community in the consular district and reaffirmed the Consulate General’s commitment to the mission of "Diplomacy for the People." She remarked touchingly: "Our loved ones in the motherland and our hometowns always hold our overseas compatriots in their hearts. The Consulate General will continue to convey the warmth of the Party and the nation to every compatriot, providing high-quality and efficient services for all."
