On the evening of September 25th, the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre was brightly lit as the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Calgary hosted a grand reception to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, alongside a photo exhibition commemorating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada and the 20th anniversary of their Strategic Partnership.

China and Canada established diplomatic ties on October 13, 1970, and elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in September 2005. Over the decades, bilateral relations have developed steadily, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples. The exhibition, organized around key milestones, presented historic images highlighting major achievements in the development of China-Canada ties.

The reception opened with the national anthems of China and Canada, as guests stood in tribute. Many were visibly moved, expressing deep affection and blessings for China.

In her remarks, Consul General Zhao Liying praised the contributions of overseas Chinese:

“As we celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, overseas Chinese join compatriots at home in sharing the same breath and destiny. Over the past 55 years, our two peoples have strengthened cooperation in trade, agriculture, culture, and education, creating new chapters of friendship and development. Chinese communities in Canada continue to serve as a vital bridge in promoting bilateral ties.”
